An All-American running back at Boston College, Holovak became one of the first head coaches of the Boston Patriots and his 53 victories rank second in franchise history behind Bill Belichick. After graduating from BC in 1943, he joined the Navy, skippering a PT boat operating in the South Pacific. He later played professional football for the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams, before being named head coach at BC in 1951. He was 88.
