A pilgrimage to Iran |

After driving through the night, the bus stopped at dawn at Ghadamgeh, where a shrine is built over a rock said to be marked by the footprints of Imam Reza. Inside, Shukriya touched the metal grille protecting the rock slab and wept. Then she and her sister Intesar sat outside with the girls, savoring the leafy and quiet space. I feel very safe and very calm, she would later say.
