US military investigators have told Congress that 26 deaths of prisoners in American custody in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2002 are now listed as confirmed or suspected criminal homicides, The New York Times reported today.
Army and Navy investigators said 18 of those cases have been referred to military prosecutors or to other agencies for action. They said just one of the deaths occurred at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, The Times reported.
At least four of the investigations completed by the military involved Central Intelligence Agency employees.![]()
