Next steps

  • Andrés Manuel López Obrador will have four days to officially log complaints with the Federal Electoral Institute. The election results will go before a seven-judge tribunal that has the legal power to overturn an election.

  • López Obrador's Party of the Democratic Revolution said it also might consider challenging the results in an international tribunal.

  • The electoral tribunal has until Sept. 6 to declare a winner. The new president is scheduled to begin a single, six-year term on Dec. 1.
