MEXICO CITY—Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party has filed a complaint with electoral officials against President Felipe Calderon accusing him of making assertions that "foster negative opinions" about the party.
Officials at the Federal Electoral Institute said Wednesday they are evaluating the complaint filed by PRI Congressman Sebastian Lerdo de Tejada.
Lerdo de Tejada says in the complaint that Calderon violated the law and campaigned in favor of his National Action Party when he told The New York Times in a recent interview that some PRI members would be willing to make a pact with drug traffickers.
Mexican will choose a new president next July. Law prohibits official presidential campaigning until February.
The PRI held Mexico's presidency from 1929 to 2000.
