MONTERREY, Mexico—The brother of the mayor of the northern city of Monterrey has been released after nearly two months detention due to a corruption investigation launched after a casino fire drew attention to the gambling industry.

The owners of a casino company said without explanation Monday that they were dropping their complaint against Jonas Larrazabal, the brother of Monterrey Mayor Fernando Larrazabal. Jonas Larrazabal was placed under house arrest in September after he was seen in videotapes accepting wads of cash at a casino. He has said he was selling cheese and other products from the state of Oaxaca.

Another Monterrey casino was set ablaze in late August, killing 52 people in an attack blamed on organized crime.
