MANAGUA, Nicaragua—A European Union observer team says there were irregularities in Nicaragua's presidential elections in November.

EU mission representative Luis Yanez says there was lack of transparency in the process and is calling for election reform in the Central American nation.

A report read by Yanez on Wednesday says Nicaragua's Supreme Electoral Council did not act as an independent entity, which caused uncertainty about the released results.

President Daniel Ortega was re-elected in a landslide, despite a constitutional limit on re-election.

About 80 people were part of the European Union mission that observed the election.
