SAO PAULO—A Brazilian hospital says former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's cancerous tumor has been successfully treated and has disappeared.
Doctors found the tumor in Silva's throat late last year.
He has since undergone chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which ended last month.
The Sirio-Libanes hospital says in a Wednesday statement that Silva will now be evaluated periodically. He'll undergo speech therapy as part of his recovery process.
Silva was president of Brazil for eight years starting in 2003. He left office as the most popular leader of Latin America's largest nation.
