American deaths in Iraq

The Defense Department has released the names of the following US service members killed recently in Iraq.

Two soldiers were killed on Jan. 25 in Baghdad: Sergeant Alexander H. Fuller, 21, of Centerville, Mass.; Private First Class Michael C. Balsley, 23, of Hayward, Calif. Both were assigned to the Army Third Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team, Second Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Private First Class Nathan P. Fairlie, 21, of Candor, N.Y., on Jan. 26 in Baqubah. Army Sixth Squadron, Ninth Cavalry Regiment, Third Brigade Combat Team, First Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Major Alan R. Johnson, 44, of Yakima, Wash., on Jan. 26 in Balad. Army 402 d Civil Affairs Battalion, Tonawanda, N.Y.

Three soldiers were killed on Jan 27 in Taji: Corporal Timothy A. Swanson, 21, of San Antonio ; Private First Class Jon B. St. John II, 25, of Neenah, Wis.; Private First Class David T. Toomalatai, 19, of Long Beach, Calif. All were assigned to the Army Second Battalion, Eighth Cavalry Regiment, First Brigade, First Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Lance Corporal Anthony C. Melia, 20, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Jan. 27 in Anbar Province. Marine Battalion Landing Team Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Sergeant Mickel D. Garrigus, 24, of Elma, Wash., on Jan. 27 in Taji. Army 543 d Military Police Company, 91st Police Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Two soldiers were killed on Jan. 28 in Najaf: Captain Mark T. Resh, 28, of Pittsburgh; Chief Warrant Officer Cornell C. Chao, 36, of Calif. Both were assigned to the Army Fourth Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, First Air Cavalry Brigade, First Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Specialist Carla J. Stewart, 37, of Sun Valley, Calif., on Jan. 28 in Tallil. Army 250th Transportation Company, El Monte, Calif.
