American deaths

The Pentagon has released the names of the following US service members killed recently in Iraq. According to an Associated Press count, at least 3,466 members of the US military have died since the Iraq war began in March 2003. At least 25,549 have been wounded, the military says.

Two soldiers were killed on May 23 in Ramadi: Staff Sergeant Steve Butcher Jr., 27, of Penfield, N.Y.; Private First Class Daniel P. Cagle, 22, of Carson, Calif. Both were assigned to the Army Third Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, First Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Two soldiers were killed on May 23 in Nahrawan: Corporal Victor H. Toledo Pulido, 22, of Hanford, Calif.; Corporal Jonathan D. Winterbottom, 21, of Falls Church, Va. Both were assigned to the Army Third Squadron, First Cavalry Regiment, Third Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Benning, Ga.

Specialist Benjamin J. Ashley, 22, of Independence, Mo., on May 24 in Balad. Army First Battalion, Fifth Field Artillery Regiment, First Brigade, First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Private First Class Robert H. Dembowski, 20, of Ivyland, Pa., on May 24 in Baghdad. Army First Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, First Brigade Combat Team, 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Sergeant Iosiwo Uruo, 27, of Agana Heights, Guam, on May 24 in Buhriz. Army First Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, Third Brigade, Second Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Two soldiers were killed on May 24 in Baghdad: Sergeant First Class Robert E. Dunham, 36, of Baltimore; Staff Sergeant Russell K. Shoemaker, 31, of Sweet Springs, Mo. Both were assigned to the Army First Brigade Transition Team, and attached to the Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Private First Class Casey P. Zylman, 22, of Coleman, Mich., on May 25 in Mosul. Army Third Squadron, Fourth Cavalry Regiment, Third Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Specialist Mathew P. LaForest, 21, of Austin, Texas, on May 25 in Taji. Army Fourth Battalion, Ninth Infantry Regiment, Fourth Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Second Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.

Specialist Alexander Rosa Jr., 22, of Orlando, Fla., on May 25 in Muqdadiyah. Army 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

Private William L. Bailey III, 29, of Bellevue, Neb., on May 25 in Taji. Army 755th Chemical Reconnaissance/Decontamination Company, Nebraska Army National Guard, O'Neill, Neb.

Specialist Erich S. Smallwood, 23, of Trumann, Ark, on May 26 near Balad. Army A Company, 875th Engineer Battalion of the Arkansas Army National Guard in Marked Tree, Ark.

Three soldiers were killed on May 26 in Salah Ad Din Province: Sergeant Clayton G. Dunn II, 22, of Moreno Valley, Calif.; Specialist Michael J. Jaurigue, 20, of Texas City, Texas; Specialist Gregory N. Millard, 22, of San Diego. All were assigned to the Army Second Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Third Brigade Combat Team, 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
