Forgotten Halabja Boston.com
These are bitter times for Halabja, Iraq, the town that Saddam Hussein gassed in 1988, killing an estimated 5,600. It's painful enough that many people still suffer the effects of nerve and mustard gas nearly 20 years ago. It's even worse, some lament, to feel largely forgotten and cheated of what they call a rightful revenge, because Saddam was executed before this case could go to trial. Some Kurdish politicians say people in Halabja must move on and accept that the trials are meant to achieve justice, not revenge. But many in Halabja feel that the lack of attention to their cause in the courts is mirrored by indifference to their physical pain.
