Dempsey died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in enemy action in Anbar province. Gov. M. Jodi Rell has ordered all state flags be lowered to half staff in remembrance of Dempsey until sundown on the day of his burial. Dempsey was the 16th military member with Connecticut ties to die in either Iraq or Afghanistan since March 2002. One civilian from the state also died in Iraq.
