Teachers remembered him as polite, and his yearbook from Gilford High School describes his desire to join the military. Family members said he was proud of his service, especially those times he was able to look after his buddies in his unit. He was killed May 18, 2006, when an improvised bomb went off near his Humvee in Iraq.
