Lance Corporal Adam R. Brooks, 20, Manchester, N.H.
On his last leave over Memorial Day, Brooks married Ashley McDonald, who had been his girlfriend since eighth grade. On their six-month anniversary, he called her from Iraq. Hours later, on Nov. 28, 2004, he was killed by a roadside mine south of Baghdad. He was due to come home in February, and wanted to become a state trooper.
