Specialist Alan J. Burgess, 24, Landaff, N.H.
Burgess, a gunner with the Army National Guard, died Oct. 15, 2004, in Mosul, when a car bomb detonated near his vehicle. Teachers remembered him playing "army," and his death rocked Lisbon High School, where he once returned in fatigues to show off. His mother, Karen Moore, remembered Burgess's love for his son. ''He was a good boy, a good father, and a wonderful son. His needs were always last -- everyone else came first,'' she said.
