Staff Sergeant Edmond Lo, 23, of Salem, N.H.

The youngest of six children born to parents who emigrated from Hong Kong, Edmond Lo was bright and hardworking. A 2004 graduate of Salem High School, where he was in the Air Force Junior ROTC program, Lo was offered a full scholarship to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology, but he turned it down. "He had a very strong will," said his mother, Rosa Lo. "He wanted to serve the Army." Assigned to the 797th Ordnance Company, 79th Ordnance Battalion, Sergeant Lo, 23, was six months into his second tour of duty when he was killed June 13, 2009, by a roadside bomb he was working on in Samarra City, Iraq.
