Logan Airport’s crowded parking lots are rarely the highlight of anyone’s trip. But some harried travelers had a nice surprise waiting for them last month when Massport, the state agency that runs the airport and its parking, decided after Hurricane Sandy that it would rebate fees for travelers affected by the storm.

Under the policy, Logan customers who were stranded could request a reimbursement for any parking charges that resulted from unexpected extra days spent away from Boston. Logan was under no obligation to provide the rebates. But it was a generous move that showed respect for customers who had already been through an ordeal. It’s especially encouraging because the airport has not always been distinguished by its attention to customer service. Massport’s decision was a welcome sign that it’s changing for the better.end of story marker
