About this site

The interactive map of the Boston Seaport District you see here is a beginning. It is layered with information about the area as it is currenlty configured, as well as some glimpses of what it may look like the future. It is our plan to keep this model up-to-date as new proposals and constraints are brought forward. For example, in the next several weeks, the city's chief planning agency, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, is expected to publish a series of guidelines for the public and private spaces in this area. Private landowners will need to submit drawings and plans that will change the landscape of their properties -- all of this can and will be reflected in this model.

Our apologies to our MacIntosh users as the MapGuide plug-in is not yet available for MacIntosh users.

We welcome any feedback on this site or thoughts on how to improve it. -MEM

Boston.com would like to extend its thanks to the individuals and organizations that made an important contribution to this public service project by providing the tools and know-how to help us publish the interactive map. We hope in the coming weeks and months to add information to this map as new development is proposed and as planning agencies make decisions that will effect the fabric of this new neighborhood.

In particular, thanks to InQuest Technologies and MicroDesk, both of Waltham, for their Web talents and G.I.S. know-how. Also, thanks to Brent D. Ryan at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for hours of work preparing the maps that are the underpinnings of what you see on this site. And to Tom Piper of M.I.T. for getting all of the parties together. Additional thanks to Autodesk, Inc., for help in obtaining the necessary tools.

Thanks also to the Boston Society of Architects and its SeaPort Focus Team -- in particular Todd Lee and Constance Bodurow -- the Massachusetts Port Authority, Boston Edison, the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction, the Mass. Turnpike Authority, the Artery/Tunnel Project and our colleagues at the Boston Globe for help in obtaining source material used on this site.
