Nashoba Regional’s defending Division 2 Super Bowl champions continue to get the job done against potent Division 1 opponents. Senior running back Andrew Cross rushed for two touchdowns in the second quarter to help the top-ranked Chieftains build a 34-point lead by intermission en route to a 41-7 victory over Fitchburg High last night at Crocker Field. Nashoba (2-0), which toppled Wachusett Regional last week, has outscored its opponents, 85-21. “Just a great effort on both sides of the ball and big plays by a lot of people on offense, defense and special teams,” Nashoba coach Ken Tucker said. “Once again, we were able to dominate in the first half. Our athletes were able to take advantage of things in the first half, and that helped. A great team effort all game.” The Chieftains scored all the points they needed in the first quarter. Their defense stopped the Red Raiders on their first possession, and Nashoba returned the punt to the Fitchburg 49-yard line. A 5-yard rush by Cross moved the ball to the 44, where senior quarterback Jack Sarnoski uncorked a TD pass to senior wide receiver Brady Schartner. Junior Drew Korn, a first-year kicker, booted his first of four extra points.
