Drew Smiley broke free for a 39-yard bootleg with just under five minutes left in the game and Barron Dandridge intercepted a pass to seal the win two minutes later to lead the Pioneers past the Guardians at Fitton Field. After a scoreless first half, St. John's recovered an onside kick to start the third quarter and scored when Smiley connected with Davon Jones for a 17-yard screen pass for a touchdown to make it 7-0. The Guardians answered when Jalen Evans-Ashton snuck through the right side for an 11-yard score to tie the game with 52 seconds left in the third quarter. St. John's sacked Evans-Ashton nine times - including three each by Jeff DeMango and Andrew Sullivan, while the Pioneers had interceptions from Dandridge, Kyle Roy and Davon Jones.
