Doherty High junior quarterback Luke Brennan said he lives for close games where you can make a play to change the outcome. Last night against Tantasqua Regional, the No. 9 Highlanders did just that. Trailing by a point in the fourth quarter, senior running back Abdullah Webster burst free for a 67-yard touchdown run, giving Doherty the lead as the Highlanders outlasted the Warriors, 30-23, at Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium. Highlanders coach Sean Mulcahy said it’s the first time in 18 or 19 years that Doherty has started 2-0. The Warriors fell to 1-1. “It went back and forth and we made some dumb blunders on some touchdown runs, but to be 2-0 at this point is a lot better than 1-1,” Mulcahy said. “Those (penalties) are effort mistakes and we’ll clean those things up.” “It was one of the best football games I’ve ever had the privilege of witnessing,” Tantasqua coach Aaron Powell said.
