Senior captain Brandon Williams rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries as the Gardner High football team held off Oakmont Regional, 14-8, in the 33rd annual installment of this Thanksgiving rivalry. The game was scoreless through three quarters thanks to a defensive stand by the Wildcats (6-5) midway through the first half when they repelled the Spartans (4-7) on a four-play, goal-line stand that started at the 1-yard line. Williams broke the scoring drought on the second play of the fourth quarter when he got outside and rambled 41 yards for a touchdown. Junior Peter Gallant then added the first of his two extra points. Williams, who went over 1,000 yards for the season, then went in standing up from 7 yards out with 1:50 to play to push the lead to 14-0. The Spartans scored 25 seconds later on a 1-yard run by senior A.J. Allard and a successful two-point conversion pass cut the deficit to six before Gardner recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock to clinch their third straight win in the series.
