The No. 2 Red Raiders are 20-0 after a resounding 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 20-0) against Middlesex League rival Stoneham. Melrose has an opportunity to finish with the best record in school history with two games remaining in the regular season against Watertown and No. 5-ranked Newton North. They finished 20-0 previously in 2005 and 2007. Senior middle hitter and captain Sarah McGowan (17 kills) led the Red Raiders' attack in the first set with five kills. In the second set 5-foot-11-inch outside hitter Kayla Wyland led the charge and converted two big blocks late in the set to keep the Spartans (13-7) off balance and prevent them from penetrating the Raidersí front line. Globe All-Scholastic Brooke Bell took over in the third set, finishing with 26 assists and converting a tremendous block against Stonehamís aggressive outside hitters to lift the Raiders to an 18-8 lead and add to their momentum.
