Abington 22, East Bridgewater 16

Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at East Bridgewater

Juan Rivera Globe correspondent Abington remains undefeated and has claimed the South Shore League crown with a 22-16 victory at East Bridgewater Friday night. The Green Wave were able to break a scoreless tie in the second quarter when Jack Malafronte capped a drive with a 10-yard TD run. After running back Babila Fonkem threw a half-back option pass to Joe Buckley on the conversion, the Green Wave took an 8-0 lead into the half. Malafronte was at it again in the third quarter when he broke a 53-yard run for a score to make it 16-0 after a Fonkem 2-point rush. The Vikings got on the board in the third and eventually tied the game at 16 in the fourth. Tail back converted quarterback Andrew Benson accounted for all 16 Viking points as he had a pair of 3-yard rushes for touchdowns while converting the 2-point tries. Malafronte put the Green Wave up for good when the back pushed into the end zone with a 1-yard score. With the victory Abington is set to go up against Millis-Hopedale in the postseason. The Green Wave will attempt to finish off a perfect regular-season with a Thanksgiving match against Whitman-Hanson.
