After coming away with no shots in the first half, Shrewsbury High finally attempted its first shot on goal three minutes into the second half — and the Colonials made it count. Senior Rachel Diebold dribbled in alone from the left side and slipped a shot past goalkeeper Kelly Payne for a 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Longmeadow High in last night's Division 1 state field hockey semifinal at Clark Field at West Springfield High. ‘‘We came out in the second half and just held it together,'' Diebold said. ‘‘I got the pass from Alanna (Maniatis), I was wide open, just me and their goalie. ‘‘Coming into this season, we didn't know what was to come of it. We are all pretty amazed in how far we've come so far.'' Shrewsbury (19-3) advances to Saturday's state final against Acton-Boxboro Regional at Worcester State at a time to be determined.
