Though small in stature, Wachusett Regional freshman guard Tyler Dion came up big when he had to in Friday night's game with St. John's. Dion netted eight points, including a jumper that put the Mountaineers ahead for good with less than two minutes to go, to help the second-ranked Mountaineers post a thrilling 48-47 comeback victory in a hard-fought defensive duel at the Pioneers' gym. "I'm just out there to play defense and not turn the ball over and take the shot when I'm open," Dion said. "This is a big win for us. We played the good defense and we executed down the stretch." The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Wachusett, which improved to 16-4. The Mountaineers are 2-0 against St. John's. The third-ranked Pioneers, coming off a dramatic overtime victory over fifth-ranked Doherty, slipped to 13-5. Wachusett sank eight 3-pointers, with senior guard Zack Berman hitting five, including several from NBA range. He finished with a game-high 16 points. Sophomore forward Justin Bowker scored 11 points. Dion's eight points included two 3-pointers.
