On a seemingly annual basis, the St. John's High basketball team gets better as the season the wears on. If that's the case this season, the Pioneers should enter the postseason as a heavy favorite to win their sixth consecutive Central Mass. Division 1 title. St. John's opened its season by unveiling some new weapons and showing off the improvement of some returning pieces who combined to lead the Pioneers to season-opening 58-37 win over Marlboro High tonight. The visiting Pioneers jumped out to a quick 14-5 lead and put together a decisive 11-0 run late in the second quarter. It was a tough game for us,'' St. John's coach Bob Foley said. (Marlboro) tried to freeze the ball on us, so I thought our kids need a nice job of accelerating the pace of the game early.''
