Visiting and No. 10 Hopedale rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the No. 6 Guardians. After St. Peter-Marian's Kevin Riley tied the game at 44-44 on a drive to the hoop with 29 seconds left, Hopedale worked the ball around SPM's trapping defense until senior guard Shane Finnegan got loose on the baseline and converted a right-handed layup with seven seconds left. The Guardians got a decent look on the game's final possession, but Connor Brown's baseline jumper bounced off the rim. ‘‘These games are definitely going to help us in the Clark (Tournament) and districts,'' said Hopedale senior Jeremy Bacon, who had 10 points, including a steal and two-handed jam that cut the Guardians' lead to 38-36 with 4:50 left. ‘‘You don't see the level of athleticism and depth that these D1 teams have too often. I thought we did a good job of rebounding in the second half, and we came out with an intensity right from the start in the second half.'' Hopedale is 11-4, and lost to the Guardians two weeks ago at home. Its other losses have come to 12-1 Milford High and Hometeam media poll top 10 teams Doherty High and Whitinsville Christian.
