With just one senior, Ken Harrington, in the lineup Tuesday night against No. 8 Doherty High, top-ranked St. John's turned to sophomore Davon Jones and freshman Adham Floyd, and the backcourt duo delivered like veterans. Jones poured in 10 of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter, including two 3-pointers, and Floyd scored all nine of his points in the second quarter to help the Pioneers gain their first lead. When all was said and done, St. John's escaped with a 57-54 victory at home. ‘‘We worked hard all week and it showed in this game,'' Jones said. ‘‘Fourth quarter, we came out strong. In order to win the game, you have to finish and that's what we tried to do. We're unselfish and we play for each other. Over the season, we just have to keep working and listening to what Coach (Bob) Foley says and we'll be all right.'' The Pioneers got a stellar effort from junior center Alex Fisher, who came off the bench to score 11 points. Junior forward Charlie Murray had 10 points, while Harrington finished with eight. Floyd collected six assists.
