Will Paulo's basket with 5 seconds left snapped a 57-57 tie for the Red-Tailed Hawks in Worcester in the opener for both teams. Point guard Hendle Laurole paced Innovation with 19 points, including two 3-pointers, while Jody Boykins added 10 points. Junior Tarique Ambroise (24 points) and freshman Denzel Parker (21 points) led St. Mary's, combining for 12 third-quarter points as the Eagles rallied from a 38-27 halftime deficit to tie at 48-48 heading into the fourth. Laurole put Innovation ahead, 57-54, with a 3-pointer in the final two minutes, but Parker answered with a 3-pointer just over a minute later. Parker stole the ball in the waning seconds and drew a foul with no time on the clock, but missed the second of two free throws that would have forced overtime.
