On Jan. 25, senior Darien Fernandez set Wareham’s all-time scoring record. He hasn’t slowed down since. On Thursday, he put up 16 of his 27 points in the first half as the 16th-ranked Vikings cruised to a 71-54 victory over host Bourne. “[Fernandez is] the most aggressive individual on the court,” coach Kevin Brogioli said. Junior Mason Vasconcellos chipped in with 26 points as Wareham improved to 15-1. “They are both small, very good shooters, they are both excellent defenders,” Brogioli said. “They are what make our team go.” The Vikings were playing without starting center Jeff Houde, who is serving a five-game suspension for violating team rules. “I was worried about that,” Brogioli said. “The other four stepped up and really help us get the win tonight.” Powered by Fernandez, the Vikings led at halftime, 33-24. In the second half, Vasconcellos took over, putting up 15 points of his own. He finished the game 14 for 16 from the free throw line.
