In a contest where the season was on the line for both the Shrewsbury and Algonquin boys hockey teams, it all came down to a shootout at the North Star Youth Forum on Wednesday night. And in the end, the spotlight shone brightly on none other than a freshman. Facing off against Algonquin's Jake Mick, Shrewsbury goalie Shane Gorrie relished the challenge, stopping Mick's final attempt at the net and preserving a 4-3 shootout victory for the third-seeded Colonials in the quarterfinal round of the Division 3 tournament. Gorrie stopped three other attempts in the shootout, not seeming to mind all the attention one bit. "He kind of delayed on the shot and I just took it from him," said the 6-foot-2 netminder, who was playing in his 10th game since taking over at midseason. "It's probably the best game I've ever played in." Jack Quinliven and Trevor Shea scored in the shootout for Shrewsbury, while Matt Tozeski tallied the lone Algonquin score.
