Matt Seward pitched a six-hitter and the ninth-seeded Wildcats (11-10) amassed 15 hits to avenge a pair of regular-season losses to the sixth-seeded Blue Knights (11-6) in a first-round matchup at Marshall Park in Lunenburg. Mitch Ryan had three hits, including a three-run double in the first innning that gave Gardner a 4-0 lead. Seward walked three and struck out five while holding the hosts scoreless until the seventh inning. George Thornton and Pete Gallant each had three hits each for the Wildcats, while John Hinsley was 3 for 4 for Lunenburg. Gardner will play at third-seeded Auburn in a quarterfinal at 4 p.m. Monday.
