St. Johnís tennis coach Ed Hippert was hoping his team would finish its Central Mass. slate on a strong note, improving with each match. The top-seeded, defending champion Pioneers have done just that in the Central Mass. Division 1 Tournament, capping things with a 5-0 victory over second-seeded Westboro in the final Wednesday at Algonquin Regional. The Pioneers (22-1) played three matches in the tournament and won all of them by 5-0 scores. BC High is the only team to defeat St. Johnís since last yearís state final. The Pioneers bounced back to knock off BC High two weeks ago. St. Johnís plays in a state semifinal against Longmeadow at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Clark University. The Pioneers blanked Longmeadow, 5-0, during the regular season. Singles winners included senior Chris Ellis over freshman Alan Dubrovsky at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2, senior Dylan Fletcher over sophomore David Lookwhy at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0, and senior Lucas Tata over freshman Richard Zhu at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2. Tataís victory clinched the match. Chris Ellis d. Alan Dubrovsky, 6-1, 6-2; Dylan Fletcher d. David Lookwhy, 6-0, 6-0; Lucas Tata d. Richard Zhu, 6-3, 6-2; Wes Arnold-Dave Hennessy d.
