Nashoba Regional team manager Alex Dykes usually calls senior Drew Foster’s shots, and he was all over Foster’s fourth-inning blast in Wednesday night’s Central Mass. Division 1 final at Tivnan Field. Dykes knew the ball was gone the instant Foster made contact. Foster, who hit a two-run homer in Nashoba’s quarterfinal win over Algonquin, wasn’t as sure. “I couldn’t tell because looking at the fences, one is tall and one is short,” Foster said, “so I didn’t know it went over right away.” Foster’s solo home run cleared the fence in center field, underneath the scoreboard, and was among the many highlights for the top-seeded Chieftains in their 14-1 win over fourth-seeded Wachusett Regional. Senior pitcher Jack Sarnoski went the distance, allowed four hits and struck out five, and was backed by timely hitting and excellent baserunning. Junior first baseman Kevin Connelly reached base four times, scored four runs and drove in two. Senior second baseman Ian Coull drove in two runs. Nashoba will face Leominster in the final at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tivnan, the first appearance for the Chieftains in a Division 1 championship game.
