Lawrence senior Anibal Henriquez registered 8 points in the final set to rally his team past St. John’s Prep, 3-1, in the boys’ volleyball North Sectional Final final Wednesday in Lawrence. “What can I say, it was a tremendous game. I didn’t know what I was feeling at the moment I was just playing my game and giving it my all,” said Henriquez (17 kills), whose heroics set up Bryan Camilo’s two spikes for the victory (18-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-11).“We wanted this and we accomplished it,” he said. The Lancers enter the state semifinal against Milford riding a 21-game winning streak. The squad’s last loss was to Milford, 3-1, April 8.Lawrence (22-1) struggled in the first set, trailing, 7-1, as St. John’s Prep’s Brian Keogh lit up the court.“This is a team who knows how to come back when they’re down,” said Lancers coach Tony Hajjar. After a few controversial calls in the second set, Hajjar called a timeout when he saw emotions were getting the best of his squad after three back-to-back missed hits to trail St. John’s Prep, 9-6. The timeout turned out to be just what they needed with a light hit from Anibal’s twin brother, Jeyson, tied the game at 10. A back and forth rally was sparked by Keogh and Jeyson (15 kills) as the Lancers finally took the lead after a service ace by Anibal, 19-16, forcing St. John’s Prep to a timeout. The Eagles’ errors handed the Lancers the lead and they took the set, 25-18.Neck-in-neck in the third set, both squads battled for each point until Anibal powered the Lancers ahead with a kill, 14-13.“We tried to get into their heads and talking loud because you have to be louder than that person to take them out of their game,” said Anibal.
