Nick Cardoni escaped scoring threats in all six innings he pitched as the fifth-seeded Pirates (17-6) stunned the top-seeded Tigers (17-3) at Fino Field in Milford. Oxford face No. 2 Hopedale at noon Saturday in the final at Tivnan Field. The Pirates scored the game's only runs in the sixth inning. Nick Bates led off with a single, Zakk Renihan was hit by a pitch, and Cardoni singled to left, driving in Bates. James Sheehan then tripled to deep left field, bringing home Renihan and Cardoni. Cardoni, who struck out six and walked four, left 12 runners on base, seven in scoring position. The one inning in which he didn't leave a runner in scoring position was the fourth. With two outs in that inning and a runner on second, he allowed a single to center and center fielder Tyler Barrie threw out the runner at the plate. Cardoni (120 pitches) was relieved in the seventh by Dennis Sneade, who got the save. Marcus Otis allowed six hits while pitching the distance. Otis went 2 for 3, and teammate Peter Murphy was 2 for 4.
