St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 42, Catholic Memorial 24

Friday, Sep. 20, 2013, at West Roxbury

Rebounding big time from last week's loss at Leominster, St. John's overpowered Catholic Memorial, 42-24, Friday night at James O'Connor Stadium Leading 21-17 at halftime, the Pioneers struck for two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter by junior Shane Combs--a 46-yard jaunt and a 41-yard pass reception from senior quarterback Drew Smiley-- and coasted from there. In a sterling performance, Smiley passed for four touchdowns and ran for one. "This was definitely a must-win," said Smiley. "We came out flying to the ball on offense and defense. And we worked hard all week preparing against their secondary." "A great win after a great week of practice identifying the things we needed to work on," said St. John's coach John Andreoli.
