Just how big was the thrilling, one-point victory of Monty Tech over Bay Path Friday night? Here’s Monty Tech Athletic Director Dave Reid: “I’ve been here 40 years, and I’ve never seen a game on our field like this, with a comeback like this.” Trailing 21-14 with 3:25 left, Monty Tech, with the precision and poise of a top-ten college offense, marched 65 yards in 10 plays to score. Quarterback Tony Webb hit Nick Mackowiak on a 14-yard TD slant pass, pulling the Bulldogs within a point with 24 seconds left. Webb then found Pat Fenton in the endzone for the two-point conversion and the Bulldogs had stunned the Minutemen, 22-21. Once Bay Path ran out of downs seconds later, the Monty Tech home field was flooded with joyous fans, witnesses to a game they will talk about for years. “To pull this off the way we did, well, I have never been more proud of a team,” said Monty Tech coach Matt Sallila, who was swarmed by his players and assistant coaches at the end, the Bulldogs barking loudly at 3-0, their best record since 1977.
