Junior Mark Wright scored twice and rushed for over 100 yards as the host Rockets won their opener against the Colts. Auburn took the lead for good with two minutes to play in the second half. Wright took a handoff and started off right tackle, made a fake toward the inside and then cut it back up the right sideline untouched for a 15-yard score. The Rockets forced Comp to all but abandon its ineffective running game in the second half, and was able to contain dual-threat quarterback Whitsett. Auburn senior defensive back Adam Gustafson sealed the victory when he picked off a Whitsett pass with less than three minutes to play.
