How's it go, the one about being in the playoffs, when teams can throw out their records and start with a clean slate? If there's a team that seems to embrace that mantra time and again, it's the Nipmuc Regional boys' soccer team. A 7-7-4 qualifying record? A 14th seed? The Warriors don't buy into any of it. Rather, they let their tough Dual Valley Conference schedule and gritty style of play do the talking come tournament time. It works, as the Warriors punched their third ticket in five seasons to the Central Mass. finals with Wednesday night's 1-0 semifinal win over second-seeded Bartlett at Shrewsbury High thanks to a first-half goal by Wally Esker. Nipmuc (10-7-4), which won Division 2 titles in 2009 and 2010, face DVC foe and No. 4 seed Douglas for the Division 3 crown at 2 p.m. Saturday at Foley Stadium. In two meetings season, the two teams played to scoreless a draw followed by a 2-0 Warriors win. Bartlett finished 15-4-2.
