It’s been a long time coming for the Senior Six. And even longer for Sutton High girls’ volleyball coach Donna Coonan. Coonan’s fourth-seeded Suzies won their first Central Mass. Division 3 championship Saturday at Hudson High with a 3-1 victory over No. 3 Valley Tech, an accomplishment much attributable to their six seniors, who have been part of Sutton’s program since junior high. It was also the first title for Coonan, who started the program nine years ago with the Suzies going 0-20 in their first varsity season. “Balls would bounce on players’ heads,” Coonan recalled as she contemplated how far Sutton (17-4) has come to win Dual Valley and CMass titles. The Suzies, who won by set scores of 25-11, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-14, will return to Hudson at 7 p.m. Wednesday for a state semifinal against Western Mass. champ Frontier Regional. Valley Tech, the Colonial Athletic League champion, finished its season 16-5 and saw its nine-match winning streak end.
