Charles Murray knocked down a pair of pressure free throws with 7.6 seconds on the clock to break a 59-59 tie. However, it was a key block by Adham Floyd on Makai Ashton-Langford’s attempt at tying the game that preserved St. John’s 61-59 victory over St. Peter-Marian in the Division 1 Central Mass. semifinals on Sunday afternoon at WPI’s Harrington Gymnasium. “My teammate (Davon Jones) got in there on the first block and I got the second block,” said Floyd, who got just enough of Ashton-Langford’s shot that it disrupted the attempt but did not cause a foul call at the buzzer. St. John’s will now advance to the district championship game for the eighth straight year and the 31st time overall, since the Central Mass. tournament was instituted back in 1962, taking on Franklin at a time and place to be determined. “It’s a game that drains you physically and emotionally,” said Pioneers coach Bob Foley, “but our kids hung in there and did what it took down the stretch.”
