Fourth-seeded Cushing (23-6) earned back-to-back NEPSAC Class AA championships by upsetting third-seeded Kimball Union Academy (21-7). Although KUA had beaten the Penguins in their only regular-season matchup and took an early lead on Sunday, the trio of Syracuse-bound Kaleb Joseph (24 points), Roxbury native and game MVP Jalen Adams (16 points), and St. Bonaventure signee Idris Taqqee (20 points) proved too much. “When one person scored,” said Adams, “we just tried to feed off that person. We just wanted to keep it going.” Abdul-Malik Abu, the Mattapan product who is headed to N.C. State, scored a team-high 16 points for KUA. Wellesley’s Crew Ainge (11 points) and Boston’s Duby Maduegbunam (13 points) also played well for the Wildcats.
