Forty-seven years of coaching has brought Frank Carey numerous Cape Ann crowns, four state titles and, as of last Friday, bragging rights as the winningest baseball coach in state history. But the longtime North Reading coach was forced to make room for one more highlight Tuesday afternoon. Fresh off milestone win No. 726, North Reading earned a victory in Carey’s 1,000th game behind the bench as the Hornets rallied for a 4-3 win in eight innings. Scott Allan, who was the pitcher of record in wins No. 725 and 726 for Carey in last week's doubleheader with Newburyport, again helped carry the Hornets. Following a hit-by-pitch and a pair of stolen bases, the senior laced a clean two-out single in the bottom of the eighth to drive in the winning run.
