Weston 5, Austin Prep 0

Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Weston

Two-time defending state champion Weston cruised to a 5-0 victory over No. 2-seed Austin Prep to win its third consecutive Division 3 North title on Saturday morning at Newton South High School. "It's been a great season,'' said Weston coach George Colin. ‘‘I lost five of my seven starters. We had a few rough matches during the regular season, we snapped a 30-match winning streak, but we learned a lot from it and it's made us better in the postseason I think.'' The fourth-seeded Wildcats (16-6) started things off strong taking all three singles matches from the Cougars (18-5) in straight sets. In the first singles contest, freshman Ethan Chen defeated Chris Reed, 6-1, 6-2. Second singles player James Yan won, 6-3, 6-2, over Brad Rivotto. Third singles star freshman Will Talcott also coasted to an easy victory, defeating Trevor Cox, 6-1, 6-2. Both the first doubles duo of Maxwell Legocki and Trevor Sands and the second duo of David Westerberg and Ben Spector won their respective matches, 6-3, 6-3. Legocki and Sands are undefeated this season. "Everybody has been getting better every single match which is great," Colin said. "You sweep all five points in this match, that's pretty strong."
