Fran Charles was named 7 NEWS weekend sports anchor in February of 1995.

Prior to joining WHDH-TV, Charles was a weekend sports anchor and weekday reporter at WDTN-TV in Dayton, Ohio. Charles originally began his career in broadcast in St. Louis, Missouri as a news writer and assignment editor at KSDK- TV. While living in St. Louis, Charles also had the opportunity to work for ONE ON ONE Productions, where he served as a producer of a weekly 30 minute sports preview show, which was aired in 11 markets.

Charles is currently involved in several community organizations, including the Urban League and the NAACP. He also enjoys working with school groups and addressing students concerning the importance of continuing education.

Charles received his Master's degree from the Columbia School of Journalism, after completing his Bachelor's degree in Communications at Stanford University.
