Liz Claman was named weekend anchor for 7 NEWS Today in New England in January, 1995. Claman joined WHDH-TV, 7 NEWS as general assignment reporter in October 1994. Prior to that, she was an anchor for "The Morning Exchange" at WEWS in Cleveland, Ohio.
Claman began her broadcast journalism career as a news research intern at KCBS-TV Los Angeles in 1985. In 1986, KCBS hired her as a news associate/assignment desk assistant. Shortly after, she was promoted to field producer for the 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 and 11:PM news broadcasts. From 1987-1989, Claman was a general assignment reporter for WSYX Channel 6 News in Columbus, Ohio. In 1989, she became their weekend anchor/prime weekday fill-in anchor. She held this position for two years before becoming a reporter/anchor at WEWS Channel 5 News from 1991 - 1993.
Claman has won several journalism awards, including an Emmy Award in 1988 for Best Spot News Producer in the Los Angeles area. In 1988, Claman also won a Golden Mike Award for Best Spot News-Extended Coverage of the Los Angeles Earthquake. And, in 1991, Claman was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Columbus area for Best Feature story.
Claman has a local tie to the Boston area as well. She developed an interest in broadcasting while at Phillips Academy in Andover, where she was a disc jockey for the school's radio station, WPAA.
Claman received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Languages at the University of California at Berkeley. She also spent a year of her education at the Universite de Paris, La Sorbonne in Paris, France.
