Mike Lawrence is a general assignment and special projects reporter based in Boston for WHDH-TV since October 4, 1982. He brings to Channel 7 more than 20 years of television news reporting experience. Lawrence was the New England News Exchange West Bureau reporter, based in Framingham and Worcester, from 1983-early 1993. In 1993, reassigned to Boston, he developed a series of ombudsman reports on State Government operations ("Taking the Lid off the Statehouse") that won the 1994 Mass. Associated Press Award for ongoing coverage.
Prior to joining Channel 7, Lawrence was a weekend anchor and state house reporter for WTHR-TV, the NBC affiliate in Indianapolis. From 1973-77, Mike was a reporter, producer, and anchor at WJAR-TV in Providence. He began his broadcast journalism career at radio stations in Rhode Island.
He is the recipient of numerous broadcast journalism awards, including two New England Emmys for reporting on the conflict in Northern Ireland, and numerous other awards from UPI and the broadcast journalism society Sigma Delta Chi.
Lawrence is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he received his bachelor's degree in American history.
