MISHELLE MICHAELS
'7 NEWS' WEEKEND METEOROLOGIST

Mishelle Michaels joined WHDH-TV in February of 1992 as weekend meteorologist for 7 NEWS at 6 and 11PM. In January 1995, she was also named meterologist for 7 NEWS Morning Edition on Saturdays and Sundays.

Born in Calcutta, India with the given name of Anuradha, meaning one who does good for others, it has been a long road before landing here at Channel 7. From 1990 to 1991 Michaels worked a s a meteorologist and environmental reporter for WMUR-TV 9 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Prior to WMUR, she served as a weekend meteorologist for WICB-TV and as a substitute meteorologist for a local cable station in Ithaca, New York. She also broadcasted her forecasts on weekends for WVBR-FM 93 in Ithaca.

Michaels has been a fundraising and active member of the Big Sister Foundation since the spring of 1992. In 1994, she was named as one of the Big Sisters of the Year. She is also a volunteer and spokesperson for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She has hosted the Society's "Mutts n' Fluff n' Stuff" walkathon each year since 1992.

Michaels was featured in a 1992 edition of Cosmopolitan as one of the Top 20 Young Success Stories in the country. In 1994, Michaels was chosen to give an address at the prestigious "Conference on Women in Science and Engineering". She has been asked to participate again in 1995. She is also consulting with a local company to design and produce weather products for the information superhighway.

In addition to writing on New England tourism for MASSPORT, Michaels has written pieces on education aimed at young readers for The Boston Herald. Michaels recently re-designed the Channel 7 "Weather School," an interactive educational tool she takes to community schools throughout New England. Michaels also narrated and helped to produce a Scholastic Aptitude educational video used in 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms nationwide.

Michaels recently completed a Masters degree in Education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, with a concentration in Technology in Education. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology with honors from Cornell University in New York. Michaels is an active member of the American Meteorological Society.
